FRAZEYSBURG ? Doris Lucille Fitzgerald, 84, of Frazeysburg, Ohio was called home to be with our Lord after a lingering illness at the Chapel Grove Inn of Heath, Ohio, where she had been a resident since October, 2003. Born October 4, 1919 in Adams Township of Muskingum County, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Floyd M. and Hallie Mae (Shirer) Lapp. She was married to E. Lester Fitzgerald in 1945 at Coshocton Lutheran Church and they celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary on March 31, 2004. Doris and Lester have owned and operated Edgewater Farms and Fitzgerald?s Fur and Timber Company near Frazeysburg since 1957. Doris was an avid gardener, accomplished cook, meticulous quilter, musician, and singer. She was a 1939 graduate of Adamsville High School and, on May 14, 1940, completed the prescribed course in Secretarial Training from The Commercial Extension School in Omaha, Nebraska. She was a longtime active member of the Frazeysburg United Methodist Church having served in various capacities, including Sunday School Teacher. Physically challenged since the age of 10, Doris was known for her courage, determination and humor to overcome adversity. In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Joyce L. Fitzgerald of Owensboro, Kentucky and Connie L. (Len) Rine of Frazeysburg; two grandchildren, Vicki L. Green and Nathan D. F. Vance, both of Dresden; two great grandchildren, Adam R. Green and Andrew J. Green; a brother, Bryce (Lillie Belle) Lapp of Adamsville; three step-grandchildren, Eric (Robin) Rine of Akron, Amanda (Mark) Day of Powell and Brandie Rine of Mt. Vernon, and a special nephew, Lester Moore of Frazeysburg, and his daughter Beth. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Carl Lapp, and a sister, Lillie Mae Funk. Calling hours will be 2 to 4pm and 6 to 8pm Saturday, April 24, 2004 at Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home, Frazeysburg. Funeral services will be 3:30pm Sunday, April 25, 2004 at the Frazeysburg United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jeff Belt officiating. Burial will be in New Hope Cemetery, near Adamsville. Memorial contributions may be made to the Frazeysburg United Methodist Church or to the Alzheimer?s Association.
