NEWARK - A funeral service for Donald Edward Nelson, 84, of Marlinton, WV., will be held at a later date in West Virginia. Mr. Nelson died Thursday afternoon at the home of his son in Newark. Mr. Nelson was born October 17, 1919 in Whitmer, WV. To the late Walter and Dewie (Slayton) Nelson. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army. He was a custodian for Newark Catholic High School, and retired in 1985. He is survived by his wife of 59 years Freda Tallman Nelson; one son, Rickie (Judy) Nelson of Newark; two grandchildren, Shawn and Jeremy Nelson; three brothers, Tom and Bob Nelson, both of Massillon, and Ted Nelson of Goose Creek, SC.; three sisters, Marietta Tacey of Beckley, WV., Betty Jan Haislop of Baltimore, MD. and Dolly Lewis of Green Bank, WV. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son and three brothers. Local arrangements are being handled by the Newark Chapel of Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home, 1850 W. Main Street, Newark.
