Donald E. Dowell, 80, of Dresden, died at 2:20pm Sunday February 7, 2010 at Genesis Good Samaritan Hospital.
Mr. Dowell was born August 19, 1929 in Dresden, a son of the late Arthur T. and Mildred (Lacy) Dowell. A graduate of Jefferson High School he served his country in the US Army during the Korean Conflict and was a member of the Charles M. Mitchell Post #399 American Legion. Mr. Dowell had operated a garage in Trinway years ago and for many years was the superintendent of the Cox Gravel Plant at Trinway. He was an avid fisherman and gardener and enjoyed going to Rogerâ??s Auction Barn in Adamsville.
He is survived by children, Sue (Jake) Marshall of Zanesville, Russell (Laura) Drake of Zanesville, Lee Anne (Ken) Leachman of Columbus; his love and companion, Margaret Pennington and her children, Tanya (Jeff) Myers of Zanesville, Tiffiny (Matthew) Montes of Columbus; grandchildren, Amanda Spinks, Christopher Drake, Sarah Leachman, Matt Leachman, Michael Leachman, Lauren McLaughlin, Bryce McLaughlin, Matthew Montes, Addison Montes; a great-granddaughter, Taylor Leachman; a brother Gene Dowell of Zanesville; sister, Patricia Little of McClure; many nieces and nephews and his beloved dog Montez and cat Jaz.
He was preceded in death by a brother Jerry Dowell and a sister Mary Richards.
Friends may call 4-8pm on Thursday February 11, 2010 at the Dresden Chapel of Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home, where services will be held at 1pm Friday with Minister Wanda Harney officiating. Burial will follow in the Dresden Cemetery.
