FRAZEYSBURG ? Dr. David Albert Sabatino, 70, of Elizabethton, Tennessee, died Saturday evening, March 7, 2009 at his home of natural causes. Born August 14, 1938 in Bellaire, Ohio, he was the son of the late Albert and Margaret (Graham) Sabatino. He was raised in Frazeysburg, Ohio and was a 1956 graduate of Frazeysburg High School and was a retired psychologist specializing in child and adolescent psychology. He received his Bachelor?s Degree in 1961 and his Masters Degree and PHD from The Ohio State University in 1966. His career included: Associate Professor in the Departments of Education and Psychology at the Catholic University of America; Professor of School Psychology, The Pennsylvania State University; Professor and Chairman at Northern Illinois University, Dekalb; Chairman of Department of Special Education Southern Illinois University, Carbondale; Dean of the University of Wisconsin, Stout's Division of Education and Human Resources; Chairman and Professor of Human Development and Learning, East Tennessee State University; and Dean of Registers at Atlanta Metro College, Georgia. Dr. Sabatino authored and co-authored 18 books, and served as an Associate Editor of the Journal of Learning Disabilities. He was also an advisor to The United States Department of Education in the area of Special Education. He built his home in Elizabethton, Tennessee and resided there with his canine companions Lucy and Angel. Surviving is two sons, Jonathan D. Sabatino of Freeburg, Illinois and Paul A. (Debbie) Sabatino of Coatesville, Pennsylvania; one daughter, Margaret E. (Steve) Waltrich of Herndon, Virginia; eight grandchildren; two great grandchildren; his fianc?, Deborah Castle of Kingsport, Tennessee and his former wife, Mary Ellen (Varner) Sabatino of State College, Pennsylvania. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Mark C. Sabatino, who died August 4, 1996. Calling hours will be from 10am to 11am Friday, March 13, 2009 at the Frazeysburg Chapel of Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home, 110 West Third Street. Graveside funeral services will be at 11:00am Friday, March 13, 2009 at Frazeysburg Cemetery with Dr. James A. Schumacher officiating.
