NEWARK ? A funeral service for David E. Lewis, 56 of Newark will be 11:00 a.m. Monday June 29, 2009 at the Neal Avenue United Methodist Church, 12 Neal Avenue, Newark with Rev. John Harra officiating. Burial will be in Hanover Cemetery. Mr. Lewis died June 23, 2009 at the Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital. He was born October 30, 1952 in Newark, Ohio to the late Lester Lewis and Delores C. (Flowers) McPeek of Hanover. He is survived by his mother; wife of 35 years, Sharon M. ?Shari? (Cullins) Lewis, whom he married March 23, 1974; sons, Troy David and Suzannah (Stelzer) Lewis of Murfreesboro, TN., Scot David Lewis and fianc?e Renae Bailey of Columbus; three grandchildren, Isaac David, Zecheriah Alan, Abigail Lynn; sister, Sandy (George) Hutchinson of Newark, several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother Douglas E. Lewis. Mr. Lewis has been employed at Owens-Corning Fiberglas for 35 years as a welder and the weld shop group leader. He was a member and union steward of International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers IAM Lodge # 1280, Local 244 GMP. He served six years with the Army National Guard. He was a member of Neal Avenue United Methodist Church where he served as an usher, helped with various events including community dinners and VBS. He was a coach for the Druids team at the Kiwanis Little League program. He played on the softball and basketball teams for the Owens Corning plant leagues. He was a 1970 graduate of Licking Valley High School and had served as the basketball bookkeeper and president of the LV Athletic Boosters. He enjoyed fishing, golf and participating in tractor pull events. He was an avid Buckeyes, Browns and Blue Jackets fan. A skilled woodworker, he enjoyed making things for his wife. He cherished his grandchildren and was a friend to all he met. Calling hours will be observed 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, June 28, 2009 at the Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home, 1850 West Main Street, Newark.
