Obituary

David E. "Dave" Wright, 87, of Frazeysburg, Ohio died Friday morning, January 21, 2022 at Genesis Hospital in Zanesville, Ohio as a result of Covid-19 infection.

Born September 11, 1934 in Nellie, Ohio he was a son of the late Walter J. and Margaret E. (Smith) Wright.  During the Korean War, at the age of 17, Dave joined the United States Navy and proudly served our country until 1954.  His favorite ship was the USS Philippine Sea (CV-47) on which he served with his brother, Bill Wright.  Later he began working at Rockwell International of Heath, Ohio where he retired after 40 years of service.  Dave was a member of the Frazeysburg Presbyterian Church and was a member and Past Master of Frazeysburg Lodge 490, F & AM and was currently a member of Irville Lodge 184, F & AM.  He was also a member of Olive Branch Chapter 251, Order of Eastern Star and a life member of Newark Post 1060, V. F. W.

Dave enjoyed sports and, along with his wife Peggy, founded and coached girls Biddy League basketball and later Junior High girls basketball at Frazeysburg Schools.  For many years he assisted in coaching boys Little League baseball and boys Biddy League basketball.  In his earlier years he was active in various softball, bowling and golfing leagues, including the Rockwell Retirees Golf League.  Some of his favorite activities were family camping and traveling and visiting various casinos.  But of all the traveling he did, his most memorable trip was the "Honor Flight" he made in 2017 to visit our Nation's Capital.

Surviving are three children, David (Beth) Wright of Westerville, Ohio and Michael (Rhonda) Wright of Hebron, Ohio; and Denise (Rich) Rollison of Dresden; five grandchildren, Megan Wright, Shannon Wright, Brian Wright, Sasha Wright and Brandon Wright and a great grandson, Alexander Wright.  Also surviving are two brothers, Jerry Wright of Perryton, Ohio and Butch (Linda) Wright of Millersburg, Ohio; five sisters, Shirley Coots of Frazeysburg, Cathy (Dale) Cleaveland of Alexandria, Ohio, Nita Hood of Frazeysburg, Susie Cassie of Lima, Ohio and Katie (Fred) Ikehorn of Newark, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 56 years, Margot T. "Peggy" (Tilton) Wright whom he married June 7, 1959 and who died September 9, 2015; a son, Brian Jon Wright; two brothers, William J. Wright and Don Lawrence; his step-mother, Ethel Wright; three brothers in-law, James Coots, John Cassie and Duane Hood and a sister in-law, Alice Wright.

Calling hours will be 2 to 4pm and 6 to 8pm Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at the Frazeysburg Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home, 110 West Third Street.  Irville Lodge will conduct Masonic services at 8pm, following calling hours.  Olive Branch Chapter, OES will conduct Eastern Star services following the Masonic service.

Funeral services will be 11am Thursday, January 27, 2022 at the funeral home with Pastor John Kay and Pastor Jeff Belt officiating.  Dave will be laid to rest beside his wife, Peggy, in Frazeysburg Cemetery.
