IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Darrell Preston
Woods
February 22, 1934 – June 21, 2024
Darrell Preston Woods, 90, of Nashport, passed away peacefully Friday morning, June 21, 2024, at Willow Haven Healthcare in Zanesville.
Darrell was born on February 22, 1934, in Nashport, Ohio, on the land that's been in his family since the early 1800s. He was a son of the late Wilson and Gladys (Welsh) Woods and a 1952 graduate of Zanesville High School. It was around this time where he met the love of his life, Shirley Irene Lane, at a local homecoming fair. Just this February, they celebrated their 68th anniversary together.
Darrell and Shirley shared three daughters together, Holly, Polly and Dolly – all of whom were Darrell's pride and joy. He was very active in their lives, even taking on the role of PTO President for two years at Nashport Elementary. You could always find him in the stands of all the sporting events.
Darrell was part owner and operator with his brother, Wilson "Red" Woods, of Redwood Motor Sales in Zanesville for 49 years. He was a member and past master of the Irville Lodge #184 F&AM for over 50 years, where he served as Master in 1973 and secretary for many years.
Many friends and neighbors know him as "The Hub Cap Man," as he collected over 2,500 hub caps over the years. He was also an avid collector of cars – both vintage cars, matchbox cars as well as models. His favorite was his 1940 Ford Coupe.
Those who knew Darrell would say that he always had a funny joke followed by an infectious laugh and was always willing to sit down for a game of cards.
He will be fondly remembered by his wife of 68 years, Shirley I. (Lane) Woods, whom he married on February 4, 1956; three daughters, Holly Woods (Linden) Dillin of Texas, Polly (David Russell) Woods of Texas, and Dolly Woods (Thomas) Herschel of Cleveland; seven grandchildren, Ashley (Philip) Miranda, Jenna Dillin, Shea Dillin, Aiden Dillin, Mirabela Woods, Emily (Marc) Case, and Sarah (Wade Dabbs) Herschel; two great grandsons, Charlie and Emerson Case; three sisters-in-law, Bonnie (Steve) Butler, Virginia Ardelian, and Vickie Cooper; caregiver, Alicia Baker; and close family friend, Alice Fulks and Jerry (Mary) Farmer.
In addition to his parents, he was proceeded in death by a brother, Wilson "Red" Woods, and a grandson, Colby Dillin.
Friends and family may visit Friday, June 28, 2024 from 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm at the Dresden Chapel of Vensil and Chute (714 Main Street, Dresden, OH).
Following the visitation, masonic lodge services will be held by the Irville Masonic Lodge #184 F&AM starting at 8:00 pm.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 29, 2024 starting at 11:00 am at Vensil & Chute Funeral Home (714 Main Street) with Pastor Bob Beyer officiating.
Darrell will be laid to rest at Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery in Zanesville, OH.
