IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Darrell G.
Hensley
May 8, 1935 – December 30, 2021
Darrell Gene Hensley, of Heath, Ohio, went to be with his Lord and Savior on December 30, 2021. Darrell was born in Dyersburg, TN on May 8, 1935.
He is survived by his "first" (and only) wife of 65 years, Elaine (Croy) Hensley.
Darrell cherished his family. He enjoyed singing gospel music. He was a fun-loving individual who made friends wherever he went. He had a strong work ethic and wanted everything done yesterday.
Darrell spent most of his working life driving a truck (B&L, Allied Van Lines, OK Trucking, and TNT Holland) and farming. After retiring, Darrell's love of horses became evident. He enjoyed riding and offered wagon rides to many with his draft horses. His love of horses, and his love for the outdoors, provided a perfect segue for working for the Licking County Park District. Darrell became an advocate for the Park, spending nearly 10 years there, first as a volunteer, then as an employee. He was known for his saying "Keep the parks in our hearts." In 2012, Infirmary Mound Park honored Darrell's service by naming one of the horse trails after him.
In addition to his loving wife, Darrell is survived by his children, Christie (Jeff) Kasson, Barry Hensley; grandchildren, Kristofer (Megan) Kasson, and Jennifer Kasson; great-grandchildren, Logan and James Kasson; sister in-law, Sally Croy; and Gary Zigan, farmhand, over many years, who became a member of the Hensley family.
Darrell was preceded in death by his parents Frances and Boyd Hensley; grandparents, Rosetta and Spurgeon Ray; sister Gladys (Bill) Winters; and brother Johnny (Margie) Hensley.
Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of Darrell's life at 2 p.m. January 8, 2022 at the Heath Church of Christ, 1331 Chapel Way, Heath with Dave Mason officiating. The family requests that masks be worn, and social distancing be observed.
The family would like to acknowledge and thank Hospice of Central Ohio for the excellent care they provided Darrell.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Licking County Park District; Heath Church of Christ; or Hospice of Central Ohio.
The Newark Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home is assisting with the arrangements.
