Capt. Danny E. Barnhard, 47, of Dresden, went to be with the Lord at 4:15AM Sunday August 28, 2005 at the James Cancer Hospital in Columbus. Born October 29, 1957 in Columbus, he was the son of the late Dolan E. ?Barney? Barnhard and Mary L. (Ricky) Hunter of Frazeysburg. He was a 1976 graduate of Tri-Valley High School, COTC with a degree in Criminal Justice and the Ohio Peace Officers Academy; and was a veteran of the US Marine Corps. On July 19, 1982 he began his career as a corrections officer at the Licking County Sheriff?s Department and became a Deputy Sheriff in 1984. He became a Sergeant at the department in 1987 and was promoted to Lieutenant, Jail Division in 1989. In 1996 he was promoted to Captain - Jail Division, in 1999, Detective Division, and on January 12, 2002, Captain, Administrative Services/Training Division. He was an active member of the Dresden United Methodist Church and a former member of the Dresden Kiwanis and the Marine Corps League. Surviving are his wife, Julie A. (Martin) Barnhard, whom he married December 8, 1984; children, Dominic Martin Barnhard and Clare Maria Barnhard of the home; sisters, Linda (Robert) Moran of Frazeysburg, Peggy (Jeff) Butler of Dresden, Teresa (Kyle) Denman of Louisiana, several nieces and nephews, his father and mother in law, Kenneth and ClareBelle Martin, Sr. of Dresden; step brothers, Tad (Sue) Hunter of Frazeysburg, Ty (Michelle) Hunter of Perryton, step sister, Holly Hunter of Frazeysburg and his cousin and best friend, Scott Davis of Pataskala. In addition to his father, his was preceded in death by a nephew, Lucas Donald Martin. Friends may call 2-4 & 6-9PM Wednesday August 31, 2005 at the Dresden United Methodist Church, 1014 Main Street, Dresden. The funeral service will be held at 1PM Thursday at the church with Pastors Ricci Arthur and Jeff Belt officiating.
