Dale L. "Larry" Longaberger, 83, of Nashport, Ohio died Wednesday afternoon, September 14, 2016 at his home.
Born June 3, 1933 in Dresden, Ohio he was a son of the late John Wendell and Bonnie Jean (Gist) Longaberger and was a 1951 graduate of Dresden Jefferson High School. He was an Army veteran serving from 1957 to 1962. Larry was retired from Shelly & Sands Company where he was a diesel mechanic. He had previously worked for Peabody Coal and Muskingum Mines. Larry was a master basket weaver and he enjoyed reading.
Surviving are two children, Marcy (Andy) Godfrey of Dresden and Mark (Erin) Longaberger of Urbana, Ohio; five grandchildren, Cameron Godfrey, Amber Godfrey, Brandon Godfrey, Emery Longaberger and Wyatt Longaberger. Also surviving are three sisters, Wendy (Robert) Little, Mary Ann (Wendell) McCafferty and Carmen (Ron) Fortney, all of Dresden; four brothers, Jerry (Donna) Longaberger, Rich (Joann) Longaberger, Gary (Lynn) Longaberger and Jeff (Jane) Longaberger all of Dresden and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy (Headley) Longaberger whom he married April 4, 1970 and who died April 27, 1991; three sisters, Genevieve Hard, Judy Swope and Ginny Lou Wilcox and a brother, David Longaberger.
There will be no calling hours or funeral service. A private family graveside service will be held at a later date in Dresden Cemetery.
