Cynthia L. Huffman 71, died February 24, 2022 of complications from vascular dementia. She was born to the late Frances Anders Lane Calvert and the late Robert Edwin Lane on September 5, 1950 in Lancaster, Ohio. Cindy graduated from Lancaster High School in 1968 and received her Bachelor's Degree from Ohio University in 1972.
Cindy taught sixth grade a total of 35 years at Willis C. Adams Middle School, Madison Elementary, and Licking Valley Middle School. She once was Licking Valley's district recipient of the Dow Excellence in Education Award and also served as the district's mentor teacher.
Cindy was an active Girl Scout throughout her school and college years. She also served as a Brownie Troop leader and Girl Scout leader in Newark.
Cindy was an active member of Neal Avenue United Methodist Church in Newark for over forty years. She taught Sunday School, served in various leadership positions of the United Methodist Women, and chaired and served on many church committees. In recent years, Cindy was a partner and regularly attended Life Change Church in Newark where her son Corbin serves as lead pastor.
Cindy married her college sweetheart, Gregory Huffman, on October 28, 1972, in Lancaster, Ohio, who survives. They raised their daughter, Kendra (Rick) Newell and son, Corbin (Sarah nee Lohr) Huffman, who survive. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Berkley Huffman, Griffin Huffman, and Tobias Newell. Her sister, Judy (James) May of Thornville and brother, Mark (Susan) Lane of Sugar Grove, also survive. Cindy was preceded in death by her sister, Virginia (Steve) Warthman.
Calling hours will be at Neal Avenue United Methodist Church in Newark on Saturday, March 12 from noon to 3:00 pm. A memorial service will follow at 3:00 pm. Private burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
