Obituary

Clayton E. Gardner, 87, of Frazeysburg, Ohio died Friday morning, January 1, 2016 at Genesis Morrison House in Zanesville, Ohio.

Born October 24, 1928 in Frazeysburg he was the son of the late George Nelson Gardner and Louise Ewing Gardner Breithaupt. Mr. Gardner was a graduate of Frazeysburg High School and was a United States Army veteran having served with the 24th Infantry Division during the Korean Conflict. He was retired from Gardner & Gardner Real Estate and Insurance Company of Zanesville. Clayton was a member of the Frazeysburg United Methodist Church; a life member of Wakatomika Post #6193, VFW of Frazeysburg; a 65 year member and Past Master of Frazeysburg Lodge #490, F. & A. M. and the Ancient and Accepted Order of Scottish Rite, Valley of Cambridge. Prior to his transfer to the Valley of Cambridge, he was a member of the Valley of Tokyo, Orient of Japan, Order of Scottish Rite.

Surviving is his loving wife of 55 years, Lois Baird Hickman Gardner, whom he married July 23, 1960; a son George Jeffrey Gardner and his wife, Susan, of Gahanna, Ohio; a daughter, Connie Hickman Watton and her partner, Loren Long of Zanesville; three grandchildren, Ryan Gardner of Pueblo, Colorado, Heath (Tonya) Watton of Zanesville and Amanda Gardner (Stephen) Anthony of New York, New York; two great grandchildren, Madison and Drew Watton of Zanesville and several cousins.

Clayton's family would like to acknowledge and to thank Dr. Paul Knight and all the wonderful caregivers of Genesis Hospice for the loving care given to Clayton.

Calling hours will be 2 to 4pm and 6 to 8pm Monday, January 4, 2016 at the Frazeysburg Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home, 110 West Third Street. Frazeysburg Lodge will conduct Masonic services at 6:00pm Monday.

Funeral services will be 1:30pm Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at the funeral home with the Rev. Robert Mesnard officiating. Burial will be in Frazeysburg Cemetery. Wakatomika Post 6193, VFW will present military honors at the cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Frazeysburg United Methodist Church, Wakatomika Post 6193, VFW or to Genesis Hospice.
