Claudia L. Irwin, 61 of Dresden passed away suddenly Thursday, May 15, 2014 at the Wythe County Community Hospital while returning home from her beloved ocean and beach of Hunting Island, S.C.
She was born September 14, 1952 in Columbus to the late George and Hermalee (Kelly) Adams. Her father and mother-in-law, Albert and Lea Irwin, also preceded her in death.
Claudia received an Associate of Early Childhood Studies from M.A.T.C. while caring for her family. She worked for a number of years for Muskingum County Head Start, L.E.A.D. of Licking County and the A.B.L.E program at MID EAST. Claudia was an advocate for child literacy, children with disabilities and adult education. She helped several adults earn their G.E.D.'s. She enjoyed her camper, the outdoors and loved being the mother of two exceptional young adults. No one could expect a finer mother or wife. She loved her cabin on the ridge and her many pets.
She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Alan D. Irwin; children, Amy Irwin of Blacklick, Jeremy Irwin of Pataskala; sister, Deborah Adams of Grove City.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 21, 2014 in the Dresden Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home with Pastor Gregg Inboden officiating. Burial will be in Glen Rest Memorial Estate, Reynoldsburg.
Calling hours will be observed Tuesday evening from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home, 714 Main Street, Dresden.
