Mr. Clarence B. Lake, Jr., age 78 of Newark passed away Saturday April 23, 2011 at the Selma Markowitz Care Center operated by Hospice of Central Ohio.
He was born August 28, 1932 in Newark to the late Clarence B. Lake, Sr. and Lillian (Henry) Lake.
He was preceded in death by his first wife of 24 years, Marlene (Drake) Lake and by a brother, Harry Lake and a sister, Eileen Weisant.
He faithfully served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War as a medic. He retired after 27 years with Western Electric in Columbus and 5 years in the maintenance department at Denison University. He was an active member of God's Acres Church of God for 35 years, singing in the choir, running the lunch stand and dining hall during camp meetings and working in the Gospel Trumpeter printing office. He enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling and was an avid sports fan, especially the Ohio State Buckeyes, Boston Celtics and Cleveland Indians.
Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Karen (Duke) Lake; children, Stephanie (Richard) Trager of Newark, Scott (Debbie) Lake of Newark, Shaun (Mandy) Lake of Hampton, Georgia, Darel Mitchell, David (Colene) Mitchell, Terina (Jeff) Carr all of Newark; sister, Darlene Holland of Newark; grandchildren, Kelly Trager, Brad (Ashley) Lake, Scott Lake, Marlana Lake, Katie Lake, Kim Lake, Jason Mitchell, Jamie (Adam) Lawson, Jesse Mitchell; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday April 29, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. from the God's Acres Church of God, 675 N. Cedar Street with Brother Irwin Sesher officiating. Interment will follow at Newark Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by the Licking County Veteran's Alliance.
Calling hours will be Thursday evening 5 to 8 p.m. at the church.
Contributions are asked to be made to the Hospice of Central Ohio in memory of Clarence. Envelopes will be available at the church.
