Obituary

Clarence W. â??Brickieâ? Oliver, 97, of Adamsville, died at 2:10PM Sunday June 27, 2010 at Beckett House in New Concord.
He was born on a farm north of Norwich October 12, 1912, a son of Wesley and Mattie Funk Oliver. In 1920 the family moved to a farm east of Adamsville and Clarence attended school in Adamsville where he played baseball, basketball and graduated from Adamsville High School in 1931. Following graduation, he rented a farm and also worked with his father until 1940 when he and his wife Emma Ruth bought the family farm. In 1960 his daughter Charlene and husband Richard purchased the family farm. Clarence and his wife moved to western Nebraska in 1957 due to Emma Ruthâ??s health and operated a construction business. In 1975 they returned to Adamsville, purchasing a home on Rt. 93 and continued to do construction work until 1982. Clarence was a clerk for Salem Township for three terms and was also secretary for the Muskingum County Trustees and Clerks Association for two terms. He was a big game hunter in several western states and Canada. Clarence entered several hand corn husking contests at the local, state and national levels, traveling to several western states. A life long farmer, he entered and enjoyed tractor plowing contests. Clarence enjoyed traveling with his wife and visited every state but two and most provinces in Canada.
He is survived by his daughter, Charlene Knicely and husband Richard, three grandchildren, Betty Sue (Tim) Fisher, Rick (Patti) Knicely, Randy (Kris) Knicely; great grandchildren, Becky Knicely, Sara Fisher (John Vinson), Emily (Todd) Hemmer, Dakota Knicely, Morgan Knicely and an expectant great-great grandchild this week to Emily and Todd.
He was preceded in death by his wife of over 50 years, Emma Ruth (Minner) Oliver on May 17, 1984; a son Clarence Eugene Oliver in 1936 and a sister, Edna Matchett.
Friends may call 5-8PM Thursday July 1, 2010 at the Adamsville Community Building, which Mr. Oliver helped construct, 8200 Madison Street, Adamsville. A funeral service will be held at 2PM Friday at the Community Center with Pastor Dail Parrish officiating, friends may call one hour prior to services. Burial will follow in New Hope Cemetery.
The family would like to thank Pastor Dail Parrish and the staff of Beckett House for making Clarenceâ??s final journey pleasant and with the dignity he so deserved. May God bless you allâ?¦
