Pastor Chester G. Sidle, 89, of Heath, Ohio went to join the Lord on Saturday morning, September 24, 2011 in the emergency room of Licking Memorial Hospital.
Born March 23, 1922 in Toboso, Ohio he was the son of the late David Vernon and Velva Viola (Victor) Sidle. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II seeing action in France, Germany and Austria. Although Chester served most his life as a minister he also enjoyed working in the construction business, operating heavy equipment and he was a very good mechanic.
As a minister with the Nazarene Church he served as Pastor of many area churches including Toboso Nazarene Church, Hopewell Free Methodist Church, Sunrise Nazarene Church, Newark East Side Nazarene Church, Roseville Nazarene Church and South Zanesville Nazarene Church. He was also very active in evangelistic work and tent meeting services throughout the area.
Surviving is his wife, Catharine L. (White) Sidle whom he married March 3, 1998; two sons, David (Dollie) Sidle and Darrell Sidle both of Newark, two daughters, Darlene White of Pataskala, Ohio and Marsha (Buddy) Barrett of Newark; three step children, Tim (Connie) White of Newark, Brian (Christy) White of Lexington, Ohio and Linda (David Jenkins) Leduke of Heath; three brothers, Dale Sidle of Columbus, Indiana, Kenny (Evelyn) Sidle of Hanover and Wayne (Myrna) Sidle of Newark; four sisters, Millie McKenzie, Vernie (Carl Dean) Smith and Marge Schmidt, all of Newark and Eleanor Robison of Frazeysburg, Ohio; six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; eight step grandchildren; nine step great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife of 55 years, Shirley (Grimes) Sidle whom he married December 24, 1943 and who died January 5, 1998; a daughter Shirley Elaine Sidle and a brother, Roy Sidle.
Calling hours will be from 5pm to 8pm Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at the Frazeysburg Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home, 110 West Third Street.
A celebration of Chester's life will be held at 10:30am Thursday, September 29, 2011 at the Lighthouse Memorial Church, 2600 Walnut Road, Millersport, Ohio with Pastor Bill Beard officiating. Burial will be in Hanover Cemetery where the Licking County Veterans Alliance will conduct military honors.
