Charley D. Mathis, 45 of Newark passed away unexpectedly Friday, February 28, 2025 at Genesis Hospital, Zanesville.  He was born January 26, 1980 in Newark, OH to Fred and Karen Mathis who survive.

Charley was a 1998 graduate of Newark High School.  He was a member of the Ohio Carpentry Union and currently worked for A.C.P. Construction.  Charley enjoyed riding his motorcycle even in the rain, sleet and snow. Possibly, even in a tornado he would be on that bike, living his best life. He was a friend to all; he loved hard. Charley would help anyone out any chance he had. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends. He was one hell of a guy.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his children, Paige (James) Galloway, Landon Mathis and Madi Mathis, all of Newark; a granddaughter, Henlee; sisters, Amy (Charles) Underhill, Amber (Tim) Butts; a brother, Verlin Mathis; nieces and nephews, Corbin Underhill, Austyn Butts, Alisyn Butts and Irene Butts; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Friends and family may visit from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 5, 2025 at Vensil & Chute Funeral Home | Newark Chapel.  A Celebration of Life will be at 6:00 p.m.
