Obituary

NEWARK - A memorial service for Charles W. Watson, 78 of Newark will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, August 1, 2010 at Dawes Arboretum Fireside Room with Rev. Mark Pierce officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Licking County Veterans Alliance. A reception will follow the service.

Mr. Watson died Thursday, July 1, 2010 at the LPN Health Care Facility. He was born April 16, 1932 in Lundale, West Virginia to the late Walter and Edith (Jaynes) Watson.

A graduate of Mann High School, Mr. Watson served in the U. S. Marine Corp. He retired from Rockwell International as a machinist in 1987 with 30 years of service. Mr. Watson was active in Boy Scouts his entire life. He earned the Eagle Scout award as a youth and served as the Scoutmaster for Troop # 33. He was a member of the Brownsville Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed being outdoors, especially golfing and camping. Hobbies included woodcrafts, drawing and painting.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Lucy M, (Sherman) Watson, whom he married December 24, 1954; daughters, Charlene â??Winnieâ? (Mark) Cox of Zanesville, Tammy (Jerry) Cooperrider of Thornville, Annette (Mark) Heatwole of Granville, Amy (Mike) Spaulding of Newark; sons, Charles (Teresa) Watson, Jr. of Newark, Todd (Mary Janet) Watson of Newark; sisters, Betty Sue (Roger) McGrath of NC., Mary (Bill) Shultz of FL., Iris Stone of FL., Jane (Bill) Oâ??Hara of CA., Ruth Hurley of VA.; brother, Rufus â??Dukeâ? Watson of TN.; grandchildren, Brooke (Steve) Harr, Amber (JC) Thomas, Seth Cox, Joshua (Amy) Watson, Shawn (Sara)Watson, Brittany (Mike) Judd, Tyler Watson, Corbin Spaulding, Morgan Heatwole, Peyton Heatwole; great grandchildren, Adelyn Harr, Elynn Harr, Hannah Thomas, Christopher Thomas, Kaleb Watson, Madeline Watson, Aden Judd; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert Watson, Rupert Watson and Gerald Watson.

Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday, August 1, 2010 at Dawes Arboretum, 7770 Jacksontown Road, SE., Newark.

The family has requested memorial contributions to Dawes Arboretum or Hospice of Central Ohio.
Envelopes will be available at the services.
