A funeral service for Charles Rodney ?Rod? Stoops, 67 of Newark will be held Wednesday September 28, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. in the Newark Chapel of Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home with Rev. Webster Cox officiating. Burial will follow in Wilson Cemetery with military honors by the Licking County Veterans Alliance.Mr. Stoops died Sunday September 25, 2005 at Licking Memorial Hospital. He was born May 13, 1938 in Coshocton, Ohio to the late Charles I. And L. Kathleen (Ross) Stoops.Mr. Stoops retired after 31 years with Metropolitan Life Insurance as a sales manager in the Zanesville and Newark area. For several years he had also operated the Hush Puppy Store at the Indian Mound Mall in Newark. Mr. Stoops was a 1956 graduate of New Concord High School, a member of Lafayette Lodge # 79 F & AM, Valley of Cambridge Scottish Rite, member and trustee at Cox United Methodist Church, member of Gold Wing Road Riders Chapter O, Newark.He is survived by his wife of 46 years Doris E. (Adams) Stoops, whom he married June 7, 1959; daughter, Deborah R. (Jeff) Sayre of Newark; son, Charles Douglas ?Doug? (Melissa A.) Stoops of Newark; brother, Richard R. (Cynthia) Stoops of Brighton, Co.; grandchildren, Jason (Misti) Sayre, Steven Sayre, Justin Sayre, Ryan Stoops and Autumn Stoops; nieces, Jodi Stoops of Zanesville, Kathleen Stoops of Brighton, Co.; nephew, Robert (Jennifer) Stoops of Zanesville; several brothers in law, sisters in law, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Ronald L. Stoops.Calling hours will be observed Tuesday September 27, 2005 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home 1850 West Main Street.
