A funeral service for Charles R. Green, Sr., 80 of Newark will be held Wednesday August 5, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Church of God, God?s Acres, 675 N. Cedar Street, Newark with Pastor Roger L. Decker officiating. Burial will be in Wilson Cemetery.Mr. Green died Sunday August 2, 2009 at the LPN Nursing Facility. He was born May 4, 1929 in Highwater to the late Carl and Ida Mae (Shaw) Green, Sr. He retired in 1972 from Rockwell Manufacturing as an inspector and with 21 years of service. He served in the Air National Guard. Mr. Green was also active in several businesses including; Al Roberts Grocery, The Charlie Brown Donut and Pizza Shop in Zanesville, S.L. Trucking, L.J. Produce and farm markets of Newark/Heath and Columbus. In 1981 while visiting a revival at the Carrollton Church of God he rededicated his life to God and began a new chapter in his life. He answered a call to service and under the ministry of the late Pastor E.A. Wilson he began a visitation ministry. In 1983 he became a pastor and served Church of God congregations in Ashland, Ky. and Huntsville, Ala. He traveled many places and shared God's message of Love and Forgiveness. Returning to Newark he served as a Lay minister at the Church of God, God's Acres. He was a graduate of Granville High School and was an all star athlete on the baseball and football teams. Mr. Green was a great father and shared his love of God, gardening, politics, baseball, OSU football, Fried Chicken, Pizza, Ice Cream and fresh peaches with his children and grandchildren /great-grandchildren. He is survived by his loving wife and soul-mate of 60 years, Lois (Nicholson)Green, whom he married July 15, 1949; sons, Chuck Green of Newark, Lee (Debbie) Green of Morgantown, W.Va., Steve (Barb) Green of Newark, William E. Green of Heath; daughters, Christina Jogerst of Malvern, Oh., Lois (Mike} Fry of Carrollton, Beth (Philip) Kaufholz of Canton, Carla (Jeff) McNabb of Carrollton; thirty-two grandchildren; forty-one great grandchildren; a brother, Rev. Ray (Juanita) Green of Hanover; numerous nieces and nephews whom were special and loved by their ""Uncle Dick"". In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by sisters, Mary Green, Catherine Garno; brothers, Robert Green, Dr. William Green and Carl Green, Jr. and three infant daughters and one grandson {Andy}. Calling hours will be observed Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 at the Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home, 1850 West Main Street, Newark.
