Carol E. Wollenburg, 87, a lifetime resident of Newark peacefully passed away Tuesday, February 25, 2025 at the Selma Markowitz Care Center, operated by Hospice of Central Ohio.

She was born August 28, 1937 in Newark to Frank L. "Bud" and Isabel M. (Hodgson) Stare, Jr.

Carol was an employee for 35 years at Licking Memorial Hospital serving in the communication department.  She also served on Development Council and volunteered in various areas. She was a life member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church and a graduate of St. Francis de Sales High School.

She was active in bowling, swimming and playing cards. Carol enjoyed cruises and was an avid fan of OSU sports. She supported her family in their activities. She took great pride in following her family when they played with OSU Baseball, Atlanta Braves minor league team and Pittsburgh Pirates.

Survivors include her children, Greg (Sandra Presley) Wollenburg, Jana (Jeff) Paul, Jay (Michelle) Wollenburg, Julie Wollenburg, Doug (Mikel) Wollenburg; grandchildren, Miranda Howard (Josh Waddell), Raymond (Karalee) Howard, Emily (Layne) Maple, Judah Wollenburg, Jackson Wollenburg, Jaela Wollenburg, Justice Wollenburg, Ashley Lybarger, Ryne Wollenburg, Elizabeth Wollenburg, Rachel Wollenburg, Anna Wollenburg; step-grandchildren, Jessica Smith, Eric Galateanu; great-grandchildren, Ella, Caroline, Brynlee, Izabelle, Carter, Vivian, Marley, Taten, Tayleah, Addie, Aden; brothers, Frank (Dusty) Stare, III, John Stare; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas E. Wollenburg; siblings, Frances Stare, Shirley Stare, Janie Stare

A private family memorial service will take place with burial at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery at a later date.

The family requests memorial contributions to American Heart Association or Hospice of Central Ohio.
