A memorial service for Betty Lavelle McKee, age 87, of Newark, Ohio will be held at First United Methodist Church located at 55 North Fifth Street in Newark, Ohio at 11:00 AM on Monday, April 30 th with Pastor Scott Campbell and Pastor Steve Rath officiating.
Betty passed away on April 26, 2018 at home with family by her side. She was born in Newark, Ohio on April 5, 1931 to William H. and Helen B. Lavelle.
Betty was a member of the First United Methodist Church since 1948. She was a member of Monday Talks and The Review Club. After moves to Lemont, Illinois and East Liverpool, Ohio, she returned to Newark in 1991.
Betty is survived by twin daughters, Jeanne M. Elliott (James T. Jr.) of Basking Ridge, New Jersey and Jayne M. Hire (W. Jeffrey) of Dublin, Ohio. Betty was fortunate to have five wonderful grandchildren, Katherine E. Adams (Dr. Jacob) of Sausalito, California, James T. Elliott III (Jenna) of New York, New York, Patrick M. Elliott of San Francisco, California, W. Andrew Hire (Katherine) of Worthington, Ohio and Allison M. Riebe (Andrew) of Chicago, Illinois. She also had five great grandchildren, Ellie and Tyler Adams, Eliza and McKee Hire and Charlie Riebe. She also leaves a brother and sister-in-law, William P. and Virginia W. Lavelle, sister-in-law, Mr. Thomas Gordon (Olive Ann) and several nieces and nephews. Also surviving Betty are her very close personal friends Dr. Sam and Sujitra Laornual of Bangkok, Thailand.
Preceding Betty in death was her beloved husband of 67 years, Eugene "Gene" McKee. Also preceding her were brother-in-law, Thomas A. Gordon, husband of Olive Ann Gordon, brother-in-law Donald W. McKee and his wife Barbara McKee and a niece Laurie McKee Hughes.
Friends may visit prior to the funeral service from 10:00 AM until the service begins at 11:00 AM at the church. A graveside ceremony will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) and the First United Methodist Church.
