NEWARK: Bessie Ruth (McNulty) Haynes, 97 of Granville passed away Thursday, May 13, 2010 at the Medical Center of Newark.

Mrs. Haynes was born March 25, 1913 in Adams County. She was the eldest of ten children born to the late Jessie Herbert and Kate Blanche (Wiles) McNulty. She attended a one room school house for eight years in Clayton, Ohio. She graduated from Manchester High School in 1932 and Portsmouth Business College in 1934. She worked as a secretary for Pure Oil in Heath; a mill worker in Pawtucket, RI; and as a legal personal secretary for the law firm of Jones, Norpell, Miller and Howarth. She retired in 1978 to help care for her grandchildren.

She had been a member of Cox United Methodist Church since 1960. She was also a member of the Marionetts Club and Fiberglass Retiree Club.

Survivors include her two daughters, Mary Ellen (Michael) Osborne of Portsmouth and Kathleen Harty of Newark; grandchildren, Reynard Lee Osborne of Portsmouth, Shelly (Mike) Bushnell of Humble, TX, Susan Ellen Osborne of Winchester, KY, Jessie (Lori) Harty of Columbus, and Sarah (Jim) Randolph of Newark; great-grandchildren, Jamye Randolph, Avery Bushnell, Erin Whitmer, Grayson Bushnell, Ellacyn Randolph, and Braden Bushnell; brothers and sisters, Robert McNulty, Jesse McNulty, William McNulty, Nellie Gilkison and Grace Gaffin.

In addition to her parents Mrs. Haynes was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Harold Leroy Haynes November 13, 2007; and four brothers.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, May 17, 2010 in the Newark Chapel of Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home with Pastor Bill Wayt and Joe Gilkison officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Friends and family may call one hour prior to the service, from noon to 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home, 1850 W. Main Street, Newark.
