Obituary

NEWARK: Bess E. Holzenthaler-Buckley, 93 of Newark passed away peacefully Saturday, March 20, 2010 at Arlington Care Center in Newark.

Bess was born October 20, 1916 in Big Run, W.Va. to the late Reuben L. and Anna T. (Miller) Reid. She was a 1935 Graduate of Hopewell High School. Bess was member of the Crooksville United Methodist Church and Fultonham O.E.S # 31. She had worked as a clerk at Good Samaritan Hospital in Zanesville and McCoy Pottery in Roseville. Bess was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Her greatest joy was cooking and baking for family and friends.

Survivors include her daughters, Patricia L. Rutter of Newark, Nancy Houk-Clark and husband Don of Somerset; a brother Bob (Mary) Reid of Port Orange, Fla.; sister in-law, Virginia (Bill) Young of Cape Coral, Fla.; and daughter in-law, Linda (Bill) Birkhimer of Zanesville; grandchildren, Richard Wahl of Austin, Tex., Beth (RandyO Patterson of Somerset, Jody (Kenneth) Howard of Mt. Sterling, Keith Cober of Hilliard, Shannon (Adam) Sommers of Norwalk, and Scott Buckley of Columbus; great grandchildren, Jessica and Jordan Patterson, Justin and Caleb Sommers, and Amy (Ryan) Hyatt; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

In addition to her parents, Bess was preceded in death by her husband, Henry W. Holzenthaler; a son, Bill Holzenthaler; three sisters, Ruby Ringhiser, Nancy Aeby and Alma Gearhart; two brothers, Clarence Reid and Bill Reid; daughters in-law, Dolores and Mary Holzenthaler; and a son in-law, Sam Houk.

Friends and family may visit from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 23, 2010 at the Newark Chapel of Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home, 1850 W. Main Street, Newark.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 24, 2010 at the funeral home with Alan P. Reid officiating. Burial will follow in Wilson Cemetery.

The family would like to gratefully acknowledge the staff at Arlington Care Center and Hospice of Central Ohio for the loving care given to Bess.
