Obituary

Bennett Dean Lees, 53 of Grove City, Ohio, son of Bennett Ora and Ruth Warner Lees of Heath, Ohio, passed away January 18, 2010 at the Mount Carmel West Hospital, Columbus, Ohio.

Born June 29, 1956, he was a 1974 graduate of Granville High School, having attended the Southwest Licking Vocational Agricultural School, receiving a State FFA Degree. Ben also served as one of the first full-time paid members of Granville Fire Department. Ben Dean then became a police officer of Columbus State Community College for 22 years, achieving the rank of Lieutenant, and having retired with disability in February of 2007. A long time member of Heath Church of Christ, he was currently a member of the Grove City Church of Christ.

Along with his parents, he is survived by three children: Veronica Blanche (Doug) Vincent of Columbus, Ohio; Wayne Eugene Lees of Grove City, Ohio; and Benjamin Patrick Lees of Newark, Ohio. He is also survived by five siblings: Kenneth William (Diane) Lees of Newark, Ohio; Joseph Thurman (Lori) Lees of New Salisbury, Indiana; Charles Denzill (Millie) Lees of Lexington, Kentucky; Linda Ruth Lees Gorsuch of Richwood, Ohio; and Raymond Matthew (Matt) Lees of Worthington, Ohio. Surviving is a special friend, Sherry Harris and her two grandchildren: Kalyb Terry and Trina Parker. A host of aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends remain at his passing.

Ben Dean was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Jadelynn Nichole Runyon. Also preceding him in death was his maternal grandparents, Thurman Gilmore and Josephine Woodward Warner; and paternal grandparents, Denzill Ora and Blanche Claggett Lees; along with numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 23, 2010, at the Newark Chapel of the Vensil-Orr and Chute Funeral Home, 1850 West Main Street, Newark, Ohio. Burial will be at Licking Cemetery.
