Obituary

Anna Josephine Gorby, 95, of Glendale, California, formerly of Trinway, Ohio died peacefully April 9, 2014 at her residence in Glendale.

Born August 6, 1918 in Gainesville, Ohio she was a daughter of the late William E. and Eura (Stires) Marquand.  Josie always took delight in being related to President Abraham Lincoln, on her mother's side of the family.

The Gorby's were farmers near Dresden for many years.  Later, Josie went on to work for 25 years in the Tri-Valley Local School District in the food service department.  After retiring from Tri-Valley she became a tour guide for the Longaberger Company, a position she held and enjoyed for ten years.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Blaine W. Gorby, who died in 1988 and two sons Ronald Blaine Gorby and Clarence William Gorby. Survivors include her daughter Karen Countryman and  granddaughter Evette Countryman of Coshocton; a grandson Richard Countryman of New Philadelphia; four great granddaughters, Courtney, Amanda and Corrie Cox and Tasha Broadwater, and a great great granddaughter, Naylee Broadwater.

Also surviving are a sister in-law Mrs. Greg (Virginia) Gorby and nephews Dr. Donald C. (Hon. Mary W.) Boger, with whom she made her home, Robert (Patricia) Denner, James Denner,  and Clark Gorby;  nieces, Maxine Rideout, Sandra Boger,  Patricia Jane St. Clair, Mary Ann (David) Stauffer, Carol Westfall and Jean Dingey, thirty-four grand nieces and nephews, forty great grand nieces and nephews and thirty-one great great grand nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be 6pm to 8pm Thursday, April 17, 2014 at the Dresden Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home, 714 Main Street.

Graveside funeral services will be at 3:00pm Friday, April 18, 2014 at Cumberland Cemetery, Cumberland, Ohio with Pastor Randy Mullins officiating.
