Obituary

Alvin Eugene Smythe, born May 31, 1944, slipped away peacefully, Saturday, March 6, 2010 at Riverside Methodist Hospital.

He proudly served in the US Army, Rank SP5 E5, receiving National Defense Service Metal, 2 Over Seas Bars, Good Conduct Metal {First Award}, Vietnam Service Metal W-2/Bronze Service Star, Vietnam Campaign Metal/Device 1960, Expert 45 Caliber Pistol 1962-1968 (Korea & Vietnam).

He is survived by three sons in Washington state, Jesse (Kathlynn), Terry, and Larry (Melinda Detch) and two daughters in Florida, Heidi and Sabrina; three brothers, William & Terry of Dresden and Roy Dean (Rosemary Elder) of Circleville, four grandchildren, Brandi & Courtney Krevey and Heather & Jason Smythe; one great granddaughter, Lexi Tuck; several nieces and nephews, including Renee (Kyle Thorn of New Concord and April Smythe of Zanesville; many beloved friends, including special friend Becky Foster of Coshocton.

He was preceded in death by his parents Jesse and Violet (Tanier-King) Smythe and one sister Sharon Kaye Smythe.

A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church in Dresden at 10:00 am Monday, March 8, 2010 with Pastor Andrew Dennis officiating. Graveside services will be held Saturday March 13, 2010 at 11AM in the Dresden Cemetery, with the Dresden American Legion and VFW presenting military funeral rites.
