Alverna Mae Wheeler, 86, of Gahanna, died Sunday morning September 6, 2009 at Summerville at Chestnut Hill. Mrs. Wheeler was born October 23, 1922 in Dresden, a daughter of the late Albert R. & Lettie I. (Moran) Tumblin. She was a graduate of Jefferson High School and for many years worked as a secretary at Mid-State Bolt & Nut Co. in Columbus. Mrs. Wheeler was a member of the New Life U. Methodist Church and a past Worthy Matron of the OES in Columbus. Surviving is her husband, Herman Wheeler; a daughter, Carol Couch and her husband Chuck of Reynoldsburg; three grandchildren, David Matthew (Denise) Barr, John Michael (Nicole) Couch, Christopher Edward Couch; three great grandchildren, Alex Barr, Kayla Barr, Leah Couch; brothers, Eugene Tumblin of Hilliard and Bob Tumblin of Dresden; sisters, June (Harry) Byers of Celina and Joan Holdsworth of Dresden. Preceding her in death are her first husband, Fred Leroy Strait; daughter Janet Lee Strait; sister, Virginia Zikis and brothers, Herman and Harold ?Hap? Tumblin. Friends may call from noon until a 2PM funeral service Wednesday September 9, 2009 at the Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home, 714 Main Street, Dresden, Ohio. Mrs. Wheeler?s nephews, Pastors Tom and Bruce Tumblin, will officiate. Burial will follow in the Dresden Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to New Life U. Methodist Church, 25 W.
