NEWARK: A funeral service for Alice C. Whitis, 97 of Newark will be 11:00 a.m. Friday August 21, 2009 in the Newark Chapel of Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. John Minihan officiating. Burial will be in Newark Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Whitis died Tuesday August 18, 2009 at the Arlington Care Center. She was born October 30, 1911 in Gnadenhutten, Ohio to the late Adolph and Anna Mary (Wardell) Ulrich. Mrs. Whitis loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed gardening and reading was a passion. She was a 58 year member of the First Presbyterian Church and a member of the Golden Circle. She had been employed for 10 years with the Newark City Schools as a lunch server. She is survived by her three daughters, Carol A. Floyd of Newark, Lois k ((Dan) Spangler of Newark, Louise K. Whitis of Newark; son Frank Richard ?Dick? (Linda) Whitis of Newark; eight grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Walter F. Whitis, who died June 19, 1986; one sister and four brothers. Calling hours will be observed from 5 to 8 p.m Thursday, August 20, 2009. at the funeral home, 1850 West Main Street, Newark.
