A funeral service for Alfred T. Douglas, 78, of Newark will be held at 11:00AM at the Bible Way Missionary Baptist Church with the Reverend H. L. Holland officiating. Burial will follow in Wilson Cemetery with Military Funeral Honors provided by the U.S. Navy and the Licking County Veteran?s Alliance. Mr. Douglas died Thursday evening, May 13, 2004 at Newark Health Care Centre. He was born July 12, 1925 in Portsmouth, Ohio to the late James Douglas and Bertie Mae (Baker) Williams. He was a 20 year veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in World War II and Korea. He retired from the Ohio Department of Transportation, and was a faithful member of the Bible Way Missionary Baptist Church for 34 years, where he served as a trustee. Mr. Douglas also enjoyed fishing. Mr. Douglas is survived by his wife, Edna C. Douglas, whom he married August 25, 1995; a son, Alfred T. Douglas, Jr. of Dayton; a daughter, Karen L. Douglas of Dayton; a step-daughter, Ramona White of Detroit, MI.; a half brother, James Douglas, Jr.; and two sisters, Carlene Irvin and Anita Piearson. Calling hours will be observed one hour prior to the funeral service on Thursday, from 10:00-11:00 AM at the Bible Way Missionary Baptist Church, 917 Jones Avenue, Newark.
