NEWARK ? Private family funeral services for Ales Scurlock Wise, 74, of Newark, Ohio will be at 11:00am Monday, August 8, 2005 in the Newark Chapel of Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home, 1850 West Main Street, with the Rev. Tom Myers officiating. Burial will be in Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Wise died Wednesday afternoon, August 3, 2005 at her home. Born December 10, 1930 in Jackson, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Elmer Orlin and Edna (Bawer) Scurlock and was a graduate of Jackson High School. She also attended Rio Grand College and was Protestant by faith. Mrs. Wise was a homemaker and a former supervisor with Stiffler Brothers Stores in both Jackson and Zanesville. She enjoyed doing embroidery, baking and decorating cakes and gardening. She was an expert at making crafts, especially with eggs, and was noted in the area as an ?egger?. One of her greatest pleasures was the holidays, especially Christmas, and decorating her home with her family. Surviving is her husband, Fred L. Wise, whom she married June 1, 1957 in Marietta, Ohio; one daughter and son in-law, Aara Sue and David Chapman of Buckeye Lake, Ohio; one son and daughter in-law, Andrew Michael and Sherry Wise of Canal Winchester, Ohio; three grandsons, Andr?, Nathaniel and Christopher Wise; two nieces, Sheryl Wise and Ann (Wise) Hartshorn, both of Zanesville; a sister in-law, Sara Wise of Zanesville; and many cousins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Louvetta Scurlock Payne and a brother in-law, Chuck Wise. There will be no calling hours.
